OTHER NATURAL BODYBUILDING ORGANIZATIONS

 

ANBA - American Natural Bodybuilding Association, 2000 (logo)

The ANBA was founded in 2000 by Bobbie Timmons and was based in New Jersey. It was made up in large part by a group of promoters dissatisfied with the North American Bodybuilding Federation (NABF). The organization was in operation for only one year. It held 16 shows in five states (FL, MD, NC, NJ, PA). Its top show was the ANBA Natural Nationals. Clarence McGill and Deborah Samuels won the championship.

 

ACBA - American Christian Bodybuilding Association, 1990-

The ACBA was founded by Butch Dennis in 1990. The ACBA offered shows in CA and worked closely with the American Bodybuilding Coordinating Committee (ABCC) a number of years.

 

ADFPA – American Drug Free Powerlifting Association, (circa 1989)

The ADFPA also sanctioned physique contests. It founded by Brother Bennet of Baton Rouge, LA.

 

APFC - Aerobics Physique & Fitness Council, (circa 1996)

 

BAD - Bodybuilders Against Drugs, 1990?-1997? (logo)

BAD was headed by Sam Carrado. Tracy Howland served as Chairman. They conducted their events as being five years drug-free and used polygraph testing for screenings. Their top show was named the BAD Natural Mr./Ms. America. Sheritha McKenzie was the female champion of it in 1990.

 

BLNPA – Body Language Natural Physique Association, 2006-
The BLNPA was founded in 2006 by Kevin Topka of Massachusetts. Topka promoted with the United States Bodybuilding Federation (USBF) prior to forming the BLNPA.

 

CBA – Christian Bodybuilding Association, 1980-1982

The CBA was founded in Independence, MO in 1980 by Pete Samra, who served as its President. Clay Quinn served as its Vice President. A newsletter titled Power and a handbook on rules & regulations for natural bodybuilding was published by the organization. The CBA used blood testing as its means of detection of steroids. Their top show was the USA. John Dunn won the title in 1980. Preston Rendell won the title in 1981.

 

CMA - Classic Muscle Alliance, 1998-2000

The CMA was founded in 1998 by Brent Musselman of Quakertown, PA.

 

CNBA - Colorado Natural Bodybuilding Association, (circa 1989)

 

DFABA - Drug Free Athletics Bodybuilding Association, 1991-1992

The DFABA was founded in 1991 by Vic Robinson of Colorado. It operated under a 3-year drug-free guideline with all competitors being screened via polygraph and top winners tested via urinalysis in addition. Robinson promoted with the North American Natural Bodybuilding Association (NANBA) prior to organizing the DFABA.

 

EP - Executive Productions, 2007-

EP was founded in 2007 by Dave Cammon of Michigan. Cammon promoted with the North American Natural Bodybuilding Federation (NANBF) prior to organizing EP.

 

GDFA - Global Drug Free Alliance, 1993-1995

The GDFA was founded by George Myers of South Carolina. It operated under a one-year drug-free guideline and used polygraph and urinalysis screening. Myers worked with Doug Stewart, founder of the United States Natural Fitness Association (USNFA) in 1990 and served as a SC Chairman for the National Gym Association (NGA) at one time prior to the organizing of the GDFA.

 

IAM - Ironfish Athletic Ministries, 2005-

IAM was founded in 2005 by Rodney Hawthorne of Washington state. Hawthorne promoted with the National Gym Association (NGA) prior to organizing the IAM.

 

INBA – International Natural Bodybuilding Association (original one, circa 1988)

The original INBA was formed by Dave Kirk of the United States Natural Bodybuilding Association (USNBA), not to hold amateur contests, but to work with any promoter holding a natural contest.

 

INBF - International Natural Bofybuilding Federation (original one, circa 1983-1988)

The original INBF was operated by Cliff J. Ameduri, M.D. and Dr. Gerald Renato. It was based in New York.

 

NASF - North American Sports Federation, 1999-

After the American Athletic Union (AAU) dropped its physique program Bob Crist arranged to have bodybuilding added to activities offered by the NASF. The first NASF physique contest was in November 1999 in Hampton, VA.

 

NBBA – Natural Body Builders of America, 1981-1982

The NBBA was founded by Tom Ciola in Utica, NY in 1981. It operated under a one-year drug-free policy and was the first federation to use the polygraph test as its means of detection. Ciola published a newsletter/newspaper called The Natural Bodybuilder. Three issues in all were printed (Fall 1980, Spring 1981, Spring 1982). The NBBA's top title was the Natural Mr./Ms. America. The 1981 champions were Bob Gallucci and Terry Rouviere. 1982 winners were Greg Tefft and Darci D'Mitrenko. The NBBA was disbanded after the 1982 competition season when Ciola chose to devote time to his supplement company National Health Products, which produced the supplement “Hot Stuff”.

 

NBI - Natural Bodybuilding Inc., 1997-2007

The NBI was founded by Felix Corona of New York. Corona promoted with the All-Natural Physique & Power Conference (ANPPC) prior to organizing the NBI. The NBI began offering pro divisions in 1998. The NBI formed an affiliation with the United States Bodybuilding Federation (USBF) in 2004.

 

NCAPA - North Carolina Amateur Physique Association, 2000-2002

The NCAPA was founded by Dr. Jeffrey Noah of North Carolina. It conducted one show per year. Noah promoted contests with the American Athletic Union (AAU) before it dropped its physique program in 1999.

 

NDFBA - Northeastern Drug Free Bodybuilding Association, 1991-1993

The NDFBA was founded in 1991 by Stephen Valkus of Pennsylvania. Valkus promoted with the United States Natural Fitness Association (USNFA) prior to organizing the NDFBA. The organization operated as a five-year drug-free association and used polygraph testing as its screening for drug use.

 

NFLPA – Natural For Life Physique Association, 1992-1993

The NFLPA was based in Pennsylvania.

 

NPA - Natural Physique Association, 2000-

The NPA was founded in 2000 by Harry Silas of Virginia. Silas promoted with the American Athletic Union (AAU) prior to 1999 when it dropped its physique program.

 

ONBF - Ohio Natural Bodybuilding Federation, 2003-

The ONBF was founded in 2003 by Cory Gregory of Ohio. Gregory promoted a North American Bodybuilding Federation (NABF) event prior to organizing the ONBF.

 

SNBF - Super Natural Bodybuilding Federation, 1996-

The SNBF was founded in 1996 by Bruce & Carol Johnson of Georgia. It was affiliated with the American Sports Network (Musclemania/Fitness America) until 2004. It affiliated with the World Natural Sports Organization (WNSO/FAME) in 2005. It operated as a five-year drug-free association and used polygraph testing as its means of drug detection.

 

TNAPA - Texas Natural Amateur Physique Association, circa 1995

The TNAPA was formed by Larry Mitchell of Texas. Mitchell promoted with the North American Natural Bodybuilding Federation (NANBF) prior to organizing the TNAPA. The federations used urine testing as its means of detection of drugs.

 

TNBF - Texas Natural Bodybuilding Federation, ?-2004

The TNBF was founded by Dave & Jeff Markle of Texas. The Markle's promoted with the All-Natural Physique & Power Conference (ANPPC) prior to organizing the TNBF.

 

UNBA - United Natural Bodybuilding Association, 1996-

The UNBA was founded in 1996 by Eric Waits of California

 

USBA - United States Bodybuilding Association, 1995-1996

The USBA was founded in 1995 by Jim Valvano of NY. It operated as a one-year drug-free organization and utilized polygraph & urine testing as its means of drug screening.

 

USNFA - United States Natural Fitness Association, 1989-1991

The USNFA was founded in 1989 by Doug Stewart of Virginia. Stewart promoted with the American Natural Bodybuilding Conference (ANBC) prior to organizing the USNFA. The USNFA operated as a five-year drug-free organization and used polygraph testing as its means of drug screening. It was the first amateur affiliate of the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF) in 1990. USNFA contests were held in FL, NJ, PA, SC and VA over the course of the federation's existence.

 

WCBF World Christian Bodybuilding Federation, 2003-2003

The WCBF was founded in 2003 by Rodney Gaines of Virginia. Gaines promoted with the International Natural Bodybuilding Federation (INBF) prior to organizing the WCBF.

 

WFNA - World Federation of Natural Athletes, 2002-2005

The WFNA was founded in 2002 by Ondra Galloway, Bill Anderson and Troy Bertleson of the Pacific Northwest. The trio promoted with the National Physique Committee (NPC) prior to organizing the WFNA. It operated as a five-year drug-free organization and used polygraph testing as its method of screening for drug use.

 

WNPF - World Natural Physique Federation, 1994-

The WNBF was founded in 1994 by Troy Ford of Georgia. Ford ran the World Natural Powerlifting Federation from its inception in 1988 until 1994 when when Ralph E. Peace took that over while Ford established a bodybuilding division of the association.

 

WPC – World Physique Championships, circa 1992-2000

George Bromhead of Pennsylvania served as the WPC President.
